Conditions Addressed With Thyroid Surgery
Thyroid surgery is recommended for patients with several different conditions affecting the thyroid and parathyroid. Getting prompt treatment is crucial, as these glands produce the hormones that control metabolism and regulate nearly every vital function. If you’re dealing with one of these conditions, thyroid surgery could be a solution for you:
- Goiters (enlarged thyroid glands)
- Thyroid nodules
- Thyroid cancer
Offering Several Types of Surgery
At Dr. Moutaa BenMaamer, we’re proud to offer a variety of thyroid surgeries to best meet our patients’ needs. We’ll take a close look at your condition before recommending one of these treatment approaches:
A lobectomy involves removing one of the thyroid's lobes and, in some cases, the isthmus.
This procedure is used to remove nearly all of the gland, leaving behind just a small piece of the lobe.
During this surgery, we'll remove the entire thyroid. Patients will need to take hormones going forward to make up for the lack of a thyroid.
Patients need this surgery when the parathyroid gland produces too many hormones and becomes enlarged.
